Celebrating the Victory

1 Corinthians 15:57, Ezekiel 11:19, 2 Corinthians 3:18

How do you feel when your team wins the game? How do you feel when you lose? Everyone loves to win. Losing takes some of the fun out of the game. But looking at the score on the board isn’t the only way to see if you’re a winner. How can you celebrate a victory no matter what the score? You can be a winner because you played your best. You can be a winner because you did something you’ve never done before. You can be a winner because your team worked together better than ever. You can be a winner because you showed good sportsmanship. You can be a winner because you helped a hurt teammate or opponent. At the end of the game, it’s not about the final score. If you played your best and were a good sport, you are a winner.

But let us give thanks to God!
He gives us the victory because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done.
1 Corinthians 15:57

How does God make us a winner? No matter how hard we try, we all sin. We all have done things our way instead of God’s way. All the right things we do can’t make up for the wrong things we’ve done. When Jesus died on the cross, he traded our loss for his win. When we believe in Jesus and trust him with our life, God no longer sees the wrong things we’ve done. He only sees the right things Jesus did. God doesn’t see us as losers, he sees us as winners, no matter what our scoreboard shows. What happens after you believe in Jesus and trust him with your life? God sends his Holy Spirit to change your heart toward God. Ezekiel 11:19 The Holy Spirit helps you want the same things God wants. There will still be times when you do things your way instead of God’s way. But when you trust and follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit will be with you changing your heart so you can become more like Jesus. 2 Corinthians 3:18

How can we celebrate the win Jesus gave us? We can celebrate the win by cheering with God. We can sing praises to him, thank him, and tell him how much we love him. We can get to know him better by reading the Bible. We can make him smile by showing kindness to others. When we do these things, it’s like raising our arms and shouting “Woohoo God!” God wants to bring back the goodness of his garden and we can help him! How can we follow God’s game plan? Jesus is God’s winning game plan. We can follow God’s game plan by believing, trusting, and following Jesus. We can let Jesus be in charge of our lives. We can tell people the story of how Jesus loved us and gave his life for us. We can invite them to believe, trust, and follow Jesus, too.

LETTER FROM A COACH

Dear Team Sports Devotions,

I coach middle school basketball and cannot begin to thank you enough for these devotions. They are very well done. You have the right mix of current basketball players and history that draws the boys into the discussion from the beginning, and then you make it very relatable to the scriptures. READ MORE
