Think Jesus: Experiencing God’s Peace

THINK JESUS • Experiencing God’s Peace

Our thoughts control our actions and attitudes. They influence how we see ourselves as athletes, how we approach the game, and how well we work together as a team. The apostle Paul knew we will be at our best when we fill our minds with the things of God; things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. All of these things describe Jesus. When we think Jesus, he becomes the center of our thought life. Worry moves out and peace moves in. This season, we explore Philippians 4:6-9 and learn more about how God wants us to think in ways that improve our game, our everyday life, and especially our relationship with him.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.”  Philippians 4:6-9 NLT

LETTER FROM A COACH

Dear Team Sports Devotions,

I coach middle school basketball and cannot begin to thank you enough for these devotions. They are very well done. You have the right mix of current basketball players and history that draws the boys into the discussion from the beginning, and then you make it very relatable to the scriptures. READ MORE
