Head To Heart: Loving God With All Your Heart and Mind

HEAD TO HEART • Loving God With All Your Heart and Mind

The head-to-heart connection controls different aspects of the sports experience. Developing a strong mental game helps athletes fully enjoy the game they love to play. Jesus said part of loving God means loving him with all of our mind and all of our heart.

What does this look like in a team sport?
We bring glory to God when we accomplish the work he gives us to do. We learn about resolve when we understand how Jesus lived a life completely committed to God on our behalf. We know where our confidence comes from when we are certain God is with us in every situation. We want a team-first attitude because we chose a Christ-like attitude. We embrace courage when getting to the good thing means going through the hard thing. We are willing to do things God’s way when we truly want to get better. Great rewards come when we don’t give up. God makes us part of his victory story when we trust and follow Jesus.

Renewing our mind with the truth of God’s Word helps us fully enjoy a loving relationship with him. When we have a relationship with our Heavenly Father, the Bible says Jesus will affect our heart and mind. Philippians 4:6-7 This series connects the dots between the mental/emotional aspects of playing sports and our heart/mind connection with God.

LETTER FROM A COACH

Dear Team Sports Devotions,

I coach middle school basketball and cannot begin to thank you enough for these devotions. They are very well done. You have the right mix of current basketball players and history that draws the boys into the discussion from the beginning, and then you make it very relatable to the scriptures. READ MORE
