The Game Plan: Jesus Is God’s Winning Plan

5 day sports camp curriculum

This series has been designed to work for ANY TEAM SPORT. Every devotion is sports-related without being sports-specific.

THE GAME PLAN • JESUS IS GOD’S WINNING PLAN

A game plan is a carefully thought-out course of action worked out in advance for winning a specific game. The coach establishes a game style that best suits his team. He considers the tendencies of the opposing team and comes up with a strategy. He brings in the right substitutes at the right time and sometimes incorporates a trick play to change the momentum of the game. A good player trusts and follows the game plan down to the very last play, even when things seem impossible.

God made a world of beauty and order for his creation to enjoy. Everything was exactly as it should be until Adam and Eve believed a lie and introduced sin and death into God’s good world. But God had a winning plan to bring back the goodness of the garden. He put his plan into place by developing a substitution strategy which temporarily covered up the destructive effects of sin. Then, in a dramatic trick play, God himself stepped in to deal with evil once and for all in a surprising way. During sports camp, players will learn how Jesus is God’s winning plan, the one who leads us into victory over the power of sin.

“He poured his grace on us. By giving us great wisdom and understanding, he showed us the mystery of his plan. It was in keeping with what he wanted to do. It was what he had planned through Christ. It will all come about when history has been completed. God will then bring together all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.” Ephesians 1:8-10

LETTER FROM A COACH

Dear Team Sports Devotions,

I coach middle school basketball and cannot begin to thank you enough for these devotions. They are very well done. You have the right mix of current basketball players and history that draws the boys into the discussion from the beginning, and then you make it very relatable to the scriptures. READ MORE
